Why TK-8: We Focus on Boys’ Formative Years

As a TK–8 boys’ school, Allen-Stevenson provides the continuity, care, and challenge boys need to thrive. By educating boys through their most formative years in one intentional community, Allen-Stevenson ensures that each student is deeply known, thoughtfully supported, and steadily guided toward becoming a gentleman and a scholar.

Boys undergo significant developmental milestones as they progress between the ages of five and fourteen. Our focus on these stages of growth appropriately stretch, but do not stress, our learners providing:

  • Continuity and stability during critical developmental years, allowing boys to grow with confidence and purpose.
  • A vertically aligned academic journey that builds intellectual curiosity, independence, and scholarly habits.
  • Meaningful leadership opportunities, as older boys mentor younger peers and shape the life of the school.
  • A strong sense of belonging, fostering character, empathy, brotherhood, and responsibility within a close-knit community.

Free from unnecessary social pressure, boys are encouraged to engage fully, intellectually, creatively, and emotionally, while building confidence, character, and a strong sense of self.

An all-boys education offers:

  • Focused engagement, allowing boys to participate, take academic risks, and express themselves without distraction.
  • Instruction tailored to boys’ learning styles, emphasizing active learning, collaboration, and hands-on exploration.
  • A culture of character and accountability, where values such as respect, integrity, and empathy are explicitly taught and modeled.
  • Strong peer bonds and mentorship, fostering brotherhood, leadership, and a sense of belonging.
  • Confidence to be oneself, supporting boys’ academic growth and personal development.
