Math Team Competes at Day-Long MATHCOUNTS Event

On Saturday, February 2, four 7th grade students and six 8th grade students, who are coached by Math Teacher Will Goss, competed in the MATHCOUNTS Manhattan math competition at The Martin Luther King, Jr. Education Center. 
Gabriel Jaffe ‘21, Raam Melvani ‘20, Vivek Laddha ‘20, and Andrew Greff ‘20 competed as members of team Allen-Stevenson. Evan Friday ‘20, Jack Hurewitz ‘20, Jack Hegenbart ‘21, Jack Gelder ‘21, Jeremy Negrin ‘21, and Justin Durso ’21 competed as individuals. The competition included hundreds of other middle school students (grades 6 – 8) from public and private schools across Manhattan. This all-day event, consisted of four rounds – sprint, target, team, and countdown – and ended with an awards ceremony. Raam Melvani received a medal for getting the highest score on his team and had the 25th highest score amongst all competitors. Team Allen-Stevenson finished in 10th place amongst the 43 teams that competed, which is the highest ranking we have received in the 4 years that we have been attending.
