2D Brings Holiday Cheer to Patients with Handmade Cards
The boys of 2D gathered in a circle on the floor in their classroom to hear Jennifer Zimmerman, Assistant Head for Grades 1 & 2, along with teacher Sophie Dwyer explain how to make snowmen cards for the people who are sick and will be in the hospital over the holidays. They talked about the importance of sending holiday love to one of their neighbors, Lenox Hill Hospital.
Making the cards called on some learned and new skills for the boys. They had to think about how to fold a card, in particular, which way the card opens, how to proportion the different features of the snowman on the front of the card and how they would incorporate their message inside. They used Washi tape in various patterns for the scarves, googly eyes and real buttons. They had to estimate just how much glue would be the right amount.
After the boys wrote thoughtful messages to patients in each of their cards they hand delivered them to Lenox Hill Hospital on December 19, where they learned some more about the cards’ recipients.
