The fifth grade boys spent the fall semester creating a series of portraits in art class with Art Teacher, Alex Exposito. Once the boys completed these vibrant portraits, an exploration of a variety of printmaking techniques followed, including monoprinting.
To better understand the subtleties of this technique, Ms. Exposito demonstrated for the boys showing them how small details might not translate well when making monoprints, encouraging them to create images composed of larger shapes. The boys thoroughly enjoyed using the large printmaking plates made of glass, which were 18” x 30” in size, and metal ones, which were 12” x 36”.
Working on these large monoprints built naturally from the boys’ earlier painting project, as both art styles require high energy and cooperation, which the boys in fifth grade really seem to enjoy!
