Corporation Counsel Jim Johnson Speaks to BOCAS Boys

Community Life + Diversity Chair Jennifer Vermont-Davis invited her friend Jim Johnson to join our Upper School Boys of Color at Allen-Stevenson (BOCAS) meeting along with many mentors, faculty and staff.
Mr. Johnson was recently named the new Corporation Counsel by Mayor de Blasio, overseeing a staff of nearly 1,000 lawyers and approximately 700 support professionals who represent the City government in legal matters and litigate to protect the rights of New Yorkers.

Said Ms. Vermont-Davis, “As our students struggle to understand the racism in our country and why black people are getting killed, we wanted to have a conversation focusing on hope and arming students with wisdom and resiliency as they navigate their educational journey. Mr. Johnson, who was once in their shoes, shared his journey of being profiled all of his life to someone who is now making policy changes.”

We are so grateful to Mr. Johnson for coming to speak with our community and give our boys a space to ask questions about his experience as a Black man in this role.
