Lunar New Year Celebrations at Allen-Stevenson

Throughout the week of February 4, our kindergarten, first and second grade boys have been celebrating the Lunar New Year with the help of our dedicated parents, who took time out of their days to teach the meaning of this special holiday.
The classes were visited by a number of parents, who during their visit, explained how families celebrated the Lunar New Year, talked about and organized fun activities with the boys, including: creating paper dragons, making pig bookmarks (in honor of this being the Year of the Pig), eating celebratory foods that have significance on this occasion, and mimicking fireworks going off by jumping on bubble wrap. Introducing the holidays in our classrooms is a great way to teach our boys about diverse cultures and traditions.

Allen-Stevenson’s distinctive “enlightened traditional” approach educates boys to become scholars and gentlemen.
