Jill Collura de Vos started her formal musical studies on the flute at the age of 9. She played flute through to the second year of high school when she picked up the clarinet and was then immediately encouraged by her band and orchestra teachers to try out the bassoon. Apparently having developed a fascination for all the woodwinds she then learned to play the tenor saxophone, and ultimately decided to continue studying bassoon in college. Jill graduated from Conservatory of Music - Purchase College with a Bachelor of Music in bassoon performance. Today she is a chamber and orchestral woodwind freelancer in the tri-state area, having performed with the New York Pops, Broadway shows Phantom of the Opera
and A Catered Affair
. Jill is the principal bassoonist of the Chappaqua Orchestra and Artemis Chamber Ensemble.
She resides in Bedford Hills with her husband, Will, a French horn player.
