Art Department Faculty
The Allen-Stevenson Visual Arts program is led by a dynamic team of professional exhibiting artists—Tara Parsons (Department Head), Julia Kunin (2026 Guggenheim Fellow), Alex Expósito and Ingrid Menendez—who bring active, contemporary art practices directly into the classroom. Blending time-honored craftsmanship with modern design thinking and engineering principles, they guide students across studio art, ceramics, and woodshop. Their enduring and deep immersion in the NYC art world enriches the curriculum with diverse artistic perspectives, empowering boys to build technical skill, creative resilience, and confidence through authentic, hands-on expression.
ARTS FESTIVAL
Each year, the Art Department proudly celebrates our students with the two-day Arts Festival, a showcase of artwork from every boy—an inspiring moment for them to share their creativity with peers, families, and the wider community.

At Allen-Stevenson, our arts program seamlessly blends contemporary practice with time-honored traditions, helping students move confidently between innovation and craft. Rooted in strong design thinking and infused with engineering principles, our approach fosters independent thinking, creative problem-solving, and joyful exploration through play, inquiry, and experimentation.
Cross-curricular connections and social-emotional learning enrich and extend classroom learning, while boys across all grades work with a wide range of media, techniques, and artistic processes. Their skills grow in depth and sophistication as they progress through the School.

The Allen-Stevenson Art Department puts emphasis on building student agency and resilience through collaborative skill-building and emotional literacy. As professional artists ourselves, the art team is well versed in the contemporary art scene and through this introduce a diverse community of artists to students.
