Middle School

Community Service

Believing that service to others builds community, empathy and awareness of our local and global communities, the Middle School has developed a program that builds, in age appropriate ways, as the boys grow. Our connection with the Friday Lunch Program at the neighboring All Souls Church includes Middle School boys making 150 Sunbutter and jelly sandwiches each Friday. The boys then deliver the sandwiches to All Souls. On a rotation, the sixth grade boys serve lunch to the guests at All Souls on Fridays. The fourth grade boys have a clean up day in Central Park each year. The fifth grade boys “set the tables” for lunch in the mornings. Our relationship with PS 83 has been consistent and building. Fifth grade boys will collect art supplies for the kindergarten children and go to PS 83 to do an art activity. Sixth grade boys collect approximately two thousand gently used books each December and go to PS 83 to read their favorite books to the children. The first grade children from PS 83 then come to Allen-Stevenson each February for some games that the sixth grade boys create, a light breakfast and then an instrumental concert provided by the sixth grade boys.

Allen-Stevenson’s distinctive “enlightened traditional” approach educates boys to become scholars and gentlemen.
