Giving & Getting Involved

Allen-Stevenson is indebted to the many volunteers and donors who support the School with their time and resources year after year. As a result, we continue to offer our boys the very best in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts. This pamphlet provides information about giving and getting involved at Allen-Stevenson.

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is Allen-Stevenson’s fundraising priority. It contributes unrestricted and necessary support to the School’s operating budget each year. Tuition alone does not cover the cost of educating each boy, and the Annual Fund closes the gap between revenue from tuition and operating expenses.

  • How is my donation to the Annual Fund used?

Dollars raised for the Annual Fund are spent in that same year, and often go towards funding the most immediate needs of the School. By donating to the Annual Fund, you are providing crucial support for:
    • New curriculum initiatives
    • Athletic programs
    • Innovative and fresh technology
    • Drama productions, Music Recitals and Art Projects
    • Faculty compensation and professional development
    • Field trips • All other “extras” that comprise the unique Allen-Stevenson education
  • Why is participation important?

The entire community is asked to support the Annual Fund. We have over fifty volunteers (Annual Fund Captains) who help educate fellow families about the importance of the Annual Fund and encourage families to participate. Gifts can range from $5 to $50,000, and we ask that every family be as generous as possible. A contribution of any amount is an expression of support for the ongoing work at Allen-Stevenson.
  • When should I make my gift to the Annual Fund?

The Annual Fund runs from July 1 to June 30. It is strongly recommended to make your gift before the last day of School in June. Many families choose to give before the end of the tax year on December 31.

To learn more about the Annual Fund or vounteering as a Captain, contact the Development Department at 646-698-8238.

Parents Association

The Parents Association (PA) is an integral part of the School community. Parent volunteers organize activities and educational events that benefit the students, parents and the School. They also organize events throughout the year including raffles, community service drives, Parent Chats, affinity group discussions, the International Festival, the Spring Benefit and the Ice Skating Party, to name a few.

Whether you can commit a few hours a year or a few hours a week, the PA can find the right volunteer opportunity for you.

Please note: Donations to the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Fund and to the Spring Benefit do not count towards your Annual Fund contribution.

  • What is the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Fund

Per School policy, Allen-Stevenson teachers do not accept personal gifts from students and their parents. In lieu of these gifts, the PA kindly fundraises for two weeks in May on behalf of the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Fund. This is a way for parents to express appreciation to the teachers and give a special token of thanks. Your gift to this effort should be the equivalent of what you might give as an end-of-year gift to a teacher, though you may give whatever amount you are comfortable with.
  • What is the Spring Benefit?

The Annual Spring Benefit raises money for the Francis Bellows Allen Scholarship Fund. It alternates each year between a “family event” and an “adults only” event. It is the largest gathering for the entire Allen-Stevenson community, and serves as a community-building event. In the months leading up to the event, PA volunteers will reach out for underwriting contributions for this event. In collaboration with the Development Office, the PA successfully organizes a fun event for the community while raising money for an important cause.
