Alumni Reunion Weekend 2016

“Good memories and great friends,” Liam Millhiser ’96 remarked of the reunion dinner on March 11, 2016, summing up his feelings after spending the evening reconnecting with his classmates at the Wine & Dine Reunion Dinner hosted by Louis Rose ’86 at 583 Park Avenue.

211 alumni, spouses, faculty and guests attended the event, which included a cocktail hour on the balcony overlooking the ballroom lit up in Allen-Stevenson Blue & Gold, followed by a steak dinner at long tables donned with candelabras where alumni were seated by decade.

Dinner commenced with the recitation of a poem by William “Tawny” Kilborne, Jr. ’51, who was celebrating his 65th reunion with several of his classmates. He wrote “As We Grow Old” as lyrics for a musical entitled Head Over Heels, once reviewed “A confection” by the New York Times.

The faculty delighted in making their way around the room recounting stories with the boys they’d helped shape into Scholars and Gentlemen. Russell Patterson ’43 represented the 1940s with gusto, while several members of the Class of 2006 jabbed with coaches and their favorite teachers.

David Kersey h’98 and David Trower h’90 honored faculty members Michelle Demko, Randy Schrade ’76, Andrew Bowman, Tom Verchot and Rich Alifano for their 25 years of service to the School, and presented them with Tiffany apples as a token of the Alumni Council’s appreciation for their dedication to Allen-Stevenson.

The celebration continued on Saturday, when alumni brought their families to 78th Street to visit their alma mater. Several Upper School boys led tours of the building, while the Athletics department facilitated an alumni vs. faculty basketball game in the gym. Others relished the chanced to witness one of the final rehearsals of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Patience before the show opened on Tuesday.
"Join us at 583 Park for what is sure to be a great event!"

Reunion Class Representatives

A reunion is a great chance to renew friendships, recall memories of growing up at Allen-Stevenson, and reconnect around stories and experiences that helped shape the people we are today. Volunteers are the backbone of every successful reunion. Reunion planning at A-S takes place in the 6-12 months preceding Reunion Weekend, which is traditionally held in March to coincide with the annual Gilbert & Sullivan performance.

Individual class parties during Reunion Weekend are held off-site and are independently organized by your class. Contact your Class Representative for information about class-specific reunions or upcoming gatherings. If you are interested in serving as your Reunion Class Representative, or would like to help plan an event, contact David Smith.
Allen-Stevenson’s distinctive “enlightened traditional” approach educates boys to become scholars and gentlemen.
